About the Marine Ball:
The official birthday of the United States Marine Corps, on 10 November 1775, was when the Second Continental Congress decreed:
“That two battalions of Marines be raised consisting of one Colonel, two lieutenant-colonels, two majors and other officers, as usual in other regiments; that they consist of an equal number of privates as with other battalions, that particular care be taken that no persons be appointed to offices, or enlisted into said battalions, but such as are good seamen, or so acquainted with maritime affairs as to be able to serve for and during the present war with Great Britain and the Colonies; unless dismissed by Congress; that they be distinguished by the names of the First and Second Battalions of Marines.”
Tun Tavern, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is regarded as the birthplace of the Corps as the location of the first Marines to enlist under Commandant Samuel Nicholas, though it is disputed if a recruiting drive may have occurred earlier at Nicholas’s family tavern, the Conestoga Waggon [sic]. When the Revolutionary War ended in 1783, the Continental Navy was disestablished, and with it, the Continental Marines. The Corps was re-established on 11 July 1798, when the “act for establishing and organizing a Marine Corps” was signed by President John Adams.
Prior to 1921, Marines celebrated the recreation of the Corps on 11 July with little pomp or pagentry. On 21 October 1921, Major Edwin North McClellan, in charge the Corps’s fledgling historical section, sent a memorandum to Commandant John A. Lejeune, suggesting the Marines’ original birthday of 10 November be declared a Marine Corps holiday to be celebrated throughout the Corps.
Kardashian Kollection reviewed by Amazon users:
I’ve had these for about 6 months, December to May, so mostly during winter months where I didn’t wear sunglasses. By month 4 (April) a screw kept coming loose & I’d *luckily* always find it and screw it back in. At the end of May at one of the first BBQs I went for the summer, the arm broke near the screw, luckily not all the way off so I will just crazy glue them together. I LOOOOOVE the look of these but I never buy designer sunglasses for this very reason. Even if I had high quality sunglasses I wouldn’t be shocked if I sat on them or lost them. If these really break beyond repair, I still might by another pair, hah!
I am a size 6 but have a really round face, after reading some reviews I thought the worst. To my surprise they look and feel perfect!I hate sunglasses that are overly large, these are not too small and not too large. If you want to feel sexy in a classy vintage way, you must have these. I ordered the black- fade and now want the red, crazy tortoise, and white. If you get these and don’t end up liking them send them to me! These sunglasses are boss and I will do a youtube review on them soon( if the seller wants to send me a red pair for free) Well ladies I say these are a vintage must have!
I was worried about ordering these because of some of the reviews mentioning that these sunglasses felt “flimsy” and very cheap. To my surprise, they are very well made, especially for the price! They’re obviously simple, just black, no letters or nothing, but I like that. I tried them indoors and they are pretty dark, I thought they were going to be very transparent, but I had to take a picture of myself with them on because they were dark enough that I couldn’t see myself very well in the mirror. I haven’t actually worn them out yet, so I will update my review if they really provide no sun protection at all, but if they do I’ll just leave this review as is.
I like pin-up style products, and these are definitely from that era. They’re not the ugly “too BIG” sunglasses that are being used a lot. And I’ve always found those don’t fit on my face well, these are just the right size.
